Windsor Youth Theatre (W.Y.T.)

Creative Projects

W.Y.T provides a stimulating environment for young people to develop a practical understanding of the art of theatre whilst meeting new friends and having fun. We use drama and performance as a tool to help build confidence, interpersonal skills and encourage young people to develop a sense of self.

W.Y.T is not about auditioning or competition and you don't have to have a burning desire to be a professional actor or even work in the theatre, but you do need enthusiasm and commitment so that our Youth Theatre programme can help to inspire you, build your confidence, and introduce a whole host of skills that will last you a lifetime.

Lions Club of Windsor

Thanks to the support of Lions Club of Windsor, we also have a number of means-tested bursaries for families on a low income. To apply, please send a covering letter outlining the reasons you wish to apply for a bursary to Creative Projects, Theatre Royal Windsor, 32 Thames Street, Windsor, Berkshire SL4 1PS or email creativeprojects@kenwright.com.

Emerge (4-6 year olds)

Our Emerge sessions focus on storytelling, encouraging the group to broaden their imaginations through characterisation and improvisation whilst having fun. The group learn about freeze-frames, miming, physical theatre and mirroring, and utilise these skills by creating their own plays based on different themes.

Thrive (7-11 year olds)

Our Thrive sessions further explore the art of improvisation through different group activities and games, and also focus on texts, with the group performing monologues, duologues and group scenes from a variety of playwrights and genres. Working in groups to create characters and devise scenes boosts the self-confidence of individuals within a creative and fun environment. There is also the opportunity for some sessions to be dedicated to musical theatre with musical directors and choreographers leading occasional workshops.

Fuse (12-17 year olds)

Fuse explores texts from a range of classic and contemporary playwrights, and methods from a variety of practitioners. The group learn the techniques of improvisation and use these to write and devise their own sketch comedy. We aim to enhance the self-confidence of our members as well as provide them with a wider theatrical knowledge of skills, methods and theatrical works within a relaxed and enjoyable setting. Musical theatre workshops will be incorporated into the term, with the opportunity to perform in musical showcases as well as regularly performing scenes and plays for small-scale productions throughout the year.

Throughout the term all W.Y.T members have the opportunity to decide what they would like to focus on during sessions to ensure that the Youth Theatre is always tailored around what its members most enjoy about drama.
