The Tabard Inn, London, sometime in the fourteenth century… a motley group of individuals – Knight, Cook, Miller, Squire, Wife and more - gather for their pilgrimage to Canterbury Cathedral. On the way, they regale each other with their colourful tales to pass the time of day, and thus unfolds one of the greatest collections of stories ever told.

Come to The Canterbury Tales and experience theatrical riches it’s almost impossible to sum up: love stories, rude stories and farce most lewd, high romance and hidden depths, chivalry, villainy, jousting and boisterous antics, mirth and merriment, poetry and puppetry and a good dose of song and dance. This is human nature at its best and worst and it’s wickedly entertaining.

The tales may be medieval, but the sheer humanity they contain speaks through the ages. Mike Poulton’s deliciously witty adaptation, directed by Conrad Nelson – first toured by the RSC to rapturous reviews and public acclaim – reclaims The Canterbury Tales for contemporary audiences.

Northern Broadsides, recently in the West End with Lenny Henry's Othello, are a charismatic company of multi-talented actors. The infectious exuberance and enthusiasm of the company is sure to delight audiences young and old.
