The first tour of the Olivier award-winning play since its original production at the National Theatre in 2002.

Vincent Van Gogh, a young art dealer – but not yet a committed artist – arrives at 87 Hackford Road in Brixton looking for a room. He is full of contradictions: shy but lustful, innocent but shocking. He is also full of passion and drive - which will ultimately drive him away from his family and into poverty and the asylum. As Vincent settles into his new lodging he finds himself inexplicably drawn to his grieving land-lady Ursula, with whom he starts a turbulent, secret relationship that will change his life forever.

Based on historical facts gathered from letters between Vincent Van Gogh and his brother Theo, Vincent in Brixton explores the facets of Van Gogh’s life during his time in Brixton in 1873, charting his progress from art dealer, teacher and fervent preacher, to the beginnings of his creative talent.

Vincent in Brixton drives home the destructive power of love and art and the sacrifices made by those who create it, beginning as a straightforward love story, and turning into a tragic parable.
