LADIES IN LAVENDER

A HEART-WARMING TALE ABOUT LOVE AND UNFULFILLED DREAMS

Based on the 2004 film starring Judi Dench and Maggie Smith and written by Charles Dance, Ladies in Lavender tells the story of elderly spinster sisters. Ursula and Janet live in a small and solitary Cornish fishing village. In the Spring of 1936, they are stunned to find a young Polish man on their local beach who has been washed overboard during a storm. At first unable to communicate as they nurse him back to health, the two sisters’ lives are transformed by the presence of this handsome stranger in their home, but the bond between the three is disturbed by a holidaying Russian artist who hears his musical talent and vies for his attention.Ladies In Lavender is written by Shaun McKenna froma screenplay by Charles Dance based on a short story by William J Locke.

The Windsor Repertory Festival

Our Windsor Repertory Festival celebrates a model of theatre making that has recently been debated in the press and online, as actors and directors discuss the value of “Rep” in nurturing tomorrow’s stars. Over 3 weeks a team of professional actors and creatives will prepare a repertoire of plays which will be rehearsed during the day ready to open the following week, while that week’s play is performed each evening. This intense way of working is an incredible challenge for the company - and part of the reason we have a generation of actors in the UK with such a wide range of skills. It’s also a joy for audiences - you have the opportunity to enjoy top quality theatre made locally and get to know a company of actors over many different plays. John Counsell created the Windsor Repertory Company here in 1938. In 1988 it enjoyed its 50th birthday - in the presence of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother - and we’re delighted to continue that legacy with a season of wonderful plays and a company of the bravest, and brightest, stars of tomorrow!
